Camp for people with disabilities seeks summer missionaries

PIGEON LAKE, ON—Christian Horizons is ramping up a recruitment drive for short-term missionaries needed to serve at its family retreat this August.

“We do have a significant need for our short-term missionaries,” says Neil Cudney, director of pastoral ministries.

Christian Horizons is a national organization providing a variety of services to people with disabilities. Their annual retreat at Elim Lodge is intended for entire families to enjoy together. In order to facilitate this, they assign one short term missionary— or “STM”— to each camper with a cognitive or physical disability.

Cudney says they will need 85 of these staff, but currently has less than 10. Just like taking a short-term mission trip, those that volunteer are expected to raise their own support, keeping costs down, which ensures the camp is affordable for families.
