Indian business opportunities opening up to Ottawa firms

Opportunities for Canadian companies in India have increased significantly since Marvin Hough served as a Canadian trade commissioner in the South Asian country more than 20 years ago, but many firms are still unprepared to do business with one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, he says.

“The intense competition in the (Indian) market is such that, to be taken seriously, a company really needs to have an on-the-ground presence in one form or another,” says Mr. Hough, now an executive-in-residence at the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management.
